Kings Food Markets will close its Hillsdale location no later than January 2, 2027, following an October regulatory filing with the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development. The planned shutdown of the borough store, along with a second location in White House Station, affects 122 employees across both facilities.
The upscale supermarket chain, owned by Acme Markets parent company Albertsons Companies, notified state authorities under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act. According to company notifications, affected staff members will be offered opportunities to transfer to other store locations within the regional network.
Kings filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2020 before being acquired by Acme Markets for $96.4 million. The Hillsdale store has served as a central fixture for daily retail and grocery shopping in the Pascack Valley area for decades.
The closure leaves a prominent commercial footprint vacant in downtown Hillsdale, raising questions for local commercial real estate planners regarding future tenant selection, zoning requirements, and neighborhood retail continuity.
